Wednesday, September 21, 2011 1:30-3:00 Berkeley Public Library at 2090 Kittredge Street, just off of Shattuck Avenue. The library (wheelchair accessible)is adjacent to the Downtown Berkeley BART Station and several AC Transit lines. FORUM ON SENIOR MOBILITY. The predicted large increase in the population of seniors in the Bay Area will require increasing attention to transportation issues. Sponsored by the LWVBA and LWVBAE this forum will bring together a panel of experts on transportation and aging. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (510) 839-1608.
Tuesday, September 27, 2011 10:30 am - 2:oo pm Denny's Restaurant, 11344 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito Annual Meeting. Annual meeting of LWV WCCC, including business meeting, elections, and presentation (by Prof Rick Mintrop of UC School of Education on the new national LWV study dealing with education and the role of the federal government). Lunch will be available (optional).
Wednesday, October 12, 2011 10:00 -noon St. Peters C.M.E. Church, 5324 Cypress Ave., El Cerrito. The church is just west of I-80 and Cypress Ave can be accessed from San Pablo Ave by driving west on Potrero to 55th St and then going two blocks south to Cypress. If walking from the Del Norte BART station, take Hill St.(south boundary of station) west to Eastshore Blvd. Follow Eastshore Blvd south to Potrero Ave. Go under the freeway to 55th, then south 2 blocks to Cypress. It is about a 10 min walk. Membership meeting on national education study. The first of two membership meetings to assess the extent of support of the the LWV national study on, "The Role of the Federal Government in Pre K-12 Education.

Saturday, October 29, 2011 10:00 am - noon Cerrito Theater, 10070 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito (3 blocks W of Cerrito Plaza BART station and close to Central Ave) "Bag It", free documentary film at Cerrito Theater. BAG IT. Free, award-winning feature film (+ shorts) on plastic bags (as well as some plastics in general)and their effect on our waterways, oceans, and even our bodies. Followed by a panel discussion that will include guest actors/artists/and experts on environment issues. More information on the film here

Bay Area League Day: Housing and the Bay Area's Future.. The keynote speaker will be DAVID ROSEN, an expert in affordable housing finance, policy, land use, and lending and investment. Panels of experts will discuss: 1) meeting regional housing needs; 2) financing affordable housing, and 3) serving the hardest to house. Question periods will be included. The award winning PBS film "The New Metropolis" will provide a catalyst for a community dialog at the Rialto Cinema's Cerrito Theater on February 4, 2011 , The theme is the future of land use planning, transportation, and health in our communities and in our region in the face of global warming. (Co-sponsored with the Environmental Quality Committee of the City of El Cerrito.
